Progress to Health
UPDATE:
Meeting about Enabling Good Lives
The Ministry of Social Development and Ministry of Health are holding meetings in Hamilton on 3 April 2012 to talk to disabled people, their families or whanau about how day-time services for disabled people can be improved. They want to talk with people about the new direction for services proposed in the Enabling Good Lives report, and ask people to become involved in planning and making changes in Hamilton.
The Enabling Good Lives report was developed by an independent working group of people from the disability sector. The report said that what disabled people and their families really want is support to live a good life, as other New Zealanders do.
The working group proposed that we should move away from services provided to groups of disabled people in centres, towards ‘facilitation-based' support built around each person's needs and aspirations. The new approach may include support funding from across government agencies that would be individualised and flexible.
The report also suggested that a good place to start would be in places like Hamilton, where service providers are already making the kinds of changes talked about in Enabling Good Lives
You are invited to take part in a family/whanau discussion around what ‘enabling good lives' might look like on Tuesday 3rd April, 10am - 12noon, at CCS Disability Action, Claudelands, Hamilton.
